Energy resilience (Te Ngao)

Energy resilience (Te Ngao) aims to enhance energy security while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Boosting energy resilience means expanding local renewable generation, improving energy efficiency, and transitioning to community-led solutions like microgrids and solar networks that will help keep energy local and reliable.

We support community-led projects that amplify local energy generation, reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lower energy costs. Projects that enable communities to invest in and manage their own renewable energy sources, and share the benefits locally.

Te Rawhiti 439 Marae Reserve

Te Rāwhiti Marae Solar Power ($40,000)

Our marae is the heart of our hapori, and solar power will mean the heart can continue to beat even when the power goes off. Te Rāwhiti Marae will stay powered during outages, supporting everyday marae functions and its role as a manaaki and evacuation centre. The project will improve self-sufficiency, reduce emissions through renewable energy, and build whānau capability for wider solar use across Rāwhiti.

Energy Security Upgrade ($40,000)

Pananawe Marae’s solar PV and battery system will reduce diesel reliance, emissions and energy insecurity for this off-grid hapori. The project will provide reliable renewable power for marae activities and civil-defence sheltering, while building whānau capability through training that combines mātauranga Māori and modern technology.
